School Nursery

Welcome to our nursery class!

Here at St John’s Mead Nursery Class we value each child. Our aim is to make every child feel happy, secure and curious about the world around them helping them to become enthusiastic, life-long learners. This nursery class is part of the school and we are run by qualified teachers and highly trained staff who are passionate about working with children and recognise the crucial development happening at this time in their life. Since we are part of South Gloucestershire we are able to attend relevant courses that continue to provide us with new ideas to support and develop children. Being attached to the school also allows us to have good links with the reception class; we take part in special events together such as puppet shows and the children often play on the same play ground in the afternoon. We find that this helps our children to approach school life with more confidence.

We make sure our nursery environment reflects the children’s interests so it is inspiring and exciting. For more information on how we take children’s interests further and our planning process please click here: Planning for Progress.html

We understand that the outdoor environment is just as important as the indoors, and often take our learning outside , for example whether it be mark making activities or different ball games to develop hand-eye coordination and to encourage taking turns. We are also very lucky to be able to make full use of our lovely and large school grounds and resources, including our school hall, woodland, pond and garden area. The children love to go outdoors come rain or shine so we provide children with wellies when the weather is wetter to go on our ‘wellie walks’ where the children can be found playing hide and seek or building dens in the woods!
